Anfoushi, Alexandria, Egypt (2009)
Anfoushi, a typical fish market, full of emotions of sellers and buyers, each trying to get himself the right price. You stand in the middle of the market, uncommitted, and carts pulled by horses go by you, bringing in fish, seemingly chaotically men with vessels filled with ice and fish of all size and shapes running about, omnipresent wild cat trying to snatch any kind of remains. Shouting, chaos, the scent of fish and smoke, meowing, walking through the puddles, clatter of the horses and then the first rays of the morning sun, which completes the mood of the typical picture of the mystical and culturally distant Orient for us Europeans.
